Nagaoka - Saturanian Model

Nagaoka developped the saturian model for the atom

• The middle of the atom was positive like the planet
• The electrons go around the center like rings on a planet

Saturnian Model

Knowing that Saturn was stable and always had rings, Nagaoka thought about the atom like Saturn.  He said that electrons could move around the outside of the atom like the rings on Saturn.  The middle would be very massive and positive, like the planet.  He was the first to think of the idea of the nucleus.  This was later confirmed by Rutherford.
